Make an easy Tangram puzzle with just paper! This origami Chinese Tangram puzzle makes a clever gift for those who enjoy geometric shapes. Easy to make from some square sheets of paper.
Sadly Francis Ow passed away at the end of June, I had a few conversations with him over the past few years, one of which was about his origami tangram designs. He kindly gave me permission to create tutorials for his tangrams, I wish I had done the tutorial at the time, but never got around to it.
So this tutorial is dedicated to him, a great origami designer, check out his work at http://owrigami.com
A diagram is available for this tangram here: http://owrigami.com/show_diagram.php?diagram=tangram2
Large triangles (& small triangles) – 1:59
Parallelogram – 4:31
Square – 8:18
Medium triangle – 10:14

You Will Need

▸ 4 sheets of square paper
▸ Scissors (to trim at the start)
To pre trim paper:
▸ 2 sheets square (15 x 15 cm)
▸ 3 sheets of half square (15 x 7.5 cm)
▸ 2 sheets of square paper (quarter – 7.5 x 7.5 cm)
Paper size example: 15 x 15 cm
Final model size: 10.4 x 10.4 cm
Origami photo frame box: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_S8RG3CGYE ?
To make the frame you’ll need paper 2 times the size of the tangram, so if your tangram is 10.4 x 10.4 cm, you’ll need 21 x 21 cm for the frame box. And also remember 1 cm for the frame measurement ..

Hello Chrissy, this one is fun and I just made 3 sets mixed and solid colors, your tutorial was easy to follow, thanks for sharing
Dude!!!! Xd
i tried this and it took me a long time but it was worth it 🙂
<3 <3 <3 !!!!
when you said you are making the medium rectangle, you were making a triangle
i used 15x15cm paper to make all the tangram pieces, and the finished tangram square is only about 10.5×10.5cm. so i should be able to use another piece of 15x15cm to make the frame, right? according to your "1.4 times the size of the tangram" figure, since 10.5*1.4=14.7.
Thanks for the tutorial
Thanks for the tutorial
you said "now we're making the square shape" twice – once for the square and once for the parallelogram 🙂
Soooooooooooooo cool and fantastic. And a best best best luck for you. ?????????????
???
Thank you so much for this!
I'll make one for my mother because she loves these kinds of puzzles.
Her hands function perfectly…
